| Tear Down the Wall |
 |
I have come to believe over the years, that there are generally two things keeping people apart religiously. One is fear, and the other, is ignorance. They both have their roots in prejudice. In my forty years, I have seen the walls of division rise higher and higher. A portion of what occurred was a direct spillover from our racial predjudice. Regardless of the rhetoric, we are still black and white. Unfortunately, our view of God's word is the same. It is a refusal to understand, or even try to figure out where other faiths are coming from. We hurl terms through the air like "doctrinal error" as if we have a direct link to God in determining who or what is right or wrong. The simple fact, is everyone comes up short. Everyone misses the mark. No matter how self-righteous we are, we are inconsistent. Whether it be worship, church government, church-discipline, we have an achillies heel.
The trouble is we can't see it. We have a spiritual log sticking out of our eyes. So we look into the mirror and forget what is there. Staring back at us is an individual in need of a Savior, every day. We forget that each day he extends to us mercy and grace. One more shot at getting it right. Sadly, we use those opportunities to display our religious superiority. We show just how much we know, and how little all at the same time. We believe that our eternity is something we have mastered, something we have already laid our hands on.
Church leaders must reach across denominational lines. We must come to terms with the facts. Regardless of what the sign on the outside says, inside people are hurting. We must throw open the religious windows and fall to our knees. Should we be afraid of what others believe? Or is the real truth hidden in the insecurities of what we believe? We must understand that when exposed to darkness truth will shine brighter. God will not be diminished. He desires that everyone should be saved. Do I? Or just the ones that I have decided are faithful?
The walls must come down. Fresh winds must blow. God must be gloriifed. There will come a day when every knee shall bow. Think of how much we could accomplish for him, if we became focused on those who do not know him. Which upon closer examination may be us. "This is how we will know who the children of God are and who the children of evil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother." 1 John 3:10 Out of the Box...I'm Robin Guidicy tsfg@bellsouth.net Gal. 2:20
